Frequently Asked Questions
Learn more about AquaGems in our FAQ
What are AquaGems Liquid Marbles®?
AquaGems are a beautiful and functional decorative medium for floral and other craft arrangements. The liquid beads are made of a polymer that absorbs, stores, and releases water, which makes them ideal for fresh-cut flowers and growing plants.
They look like glass marbles. How are AquaGems Liquid Marbles® different?
AquaGems Liquid Marbles® are much lighter than glass marbles. Also, AquaGems can be used as an attractive soil substitute for growing plants, as well as a water source for plants and fresh-cut flowers. AquaGems are a great base for arranging fresh-cut flowers, because the gems are soft and flexible and won't damage the stems during positioning. Our aqua beads are colorfast and have a brilliant, bright appearance (polymer has the light-gathering refractive quality of Strauss® crystal).
How do I prepare AquaGems Liquid Marbles® for use?
AquaGems are sold in both dry and wet form. If they are in dry form, add at least one liter of water per 10 grams of gems and watch them grow. Allow to stand for 4 to 6 hours. Drain off excess water and use as desired. If they are in wet form (bottled), they are fully hydrated already and ready for use.

How big is an AquaGems Liquid Marble?
When dry, a aqua bead measures about 1/10 inch in diameter (about the size of a pin head). When hydrated to full size, each gem is about 3/8 to 1/2 inch in diameter (more like a marble).
What package sizes are AquaGems Liquid Marbles® sold in?
Dry AquaGems are available in 10-gram and 40-gram packages, in Tri-Color packs that include three 10-gram packages, and a 2-pound Event packs. Hydrated AquaGems are available in 1-liter bottles.
How do I estimate how much dry product I'll need for my project?
Our 10-gram dry package will grow through hydration to about 1 liter (slightly more than 1 quart). Our 40-gram package will hydrate to about 4 liters (1.2 gallons).
Can I use more than one color of AquaGems Liquid Marbles® in an arrangement?
Yes. Since they are colorfast, you can mix our liquid beads together in the same container or layer them, color on color.
How do I use AquaGems Liquid Marbles® with fresh-cut flowers?
Pour hydrated AquaGems into your vase, leaving enough water at the bottom to cover the cut end of the flowers. Before placing your flowers in the AquaGems, cut another ½ inch off the end of the stems, which will help the flowers to drink more effectively. Some flowers, like roses, need an abundance of water. For these flowers, add water occasionally so that you can see a little free standing water at the bottom of the vase.
How do I use AquaGems Liquid Marbles® with my growing plants?
AquaGems can be used as a soil substitute. For plants that need less water, like orchids, drain off excess water. For plants that need excess water, allow more water to remain. You can add clear, water-soluble nutrients with good effects.
How else can I use AquaGems Liquid Marbles®?
Besides providing a base for fresh-cut flowers and growing plants, AquaGems can be used for many other uses, such as with silk flowers, with candles or accent lights, alone as an intriguing focal point, or in other arrangements of your creation.
Are AquaGems Liquid Marbles® safe?
Yes. AquaGems are non-toxic, biodegradable, and environmentally safe. We suggest keeping AquaGems out of reach of children and pets, however, as aqua beads may present a choking hazard if swallowed.
Can I dispose of AquaGems Liquid Marbles® down my drain?
No. AquaGems could cause plugging problems if they are disposed of into any kind of drain.
Are AquaGems Liquid Marbles® scented?
No. You can, however, add water-soluble, plant-safe fragrances for lasting air freshness.
What are BrightSpots?

How do BrightSpots work?
They are battery-operated, LED (light-emitting diode)-type lights.
